Is the redaction actually redaction, or just visual painting?

Actual redaction — when you drop a black box with the redaction tool, we remove the underlying text from the PDF content stream. The redacted bytes are gone, not hidden. Verify by selecting the redacted area: there's nothing to copy.

Are the digital signatures legally binding?

Visual signatures (typed, drawn, uploaded image) are legally valid in most jurisdictions for ordinary contracts under e-signature laws (ESIGN, UETA, eIDAS for SES). Cryptographic PKCS#12 signatures — the kind with a certificate chain that Acrobat can verify as identity-bound — are a Docverix Platform feature.

Does anything leave the browser when I'm working on confidential documents?

No, for the default tools — PDF editor, merge, split, rotate, compress, redact, OCR all run as Web Workers locally. The only data leaving the tab is the optional Word-editor AI assist (only the selection you actively run through it) and the OCR 'Use AI' toggle. Verify in DevTools' Network panel.

Can I redact and then re-OCR to confirm the text is gone?

Yes, and it's a good verification habit. Save the redacted PDF, drop it into the OCR tool, and search the recognised text for the redacted terms. They shouldn't appear.

What about Bates numbering for a production set?

Not on the free tier today — Bates numbering, redaction by pattern, and production-set assembly all live in the Docverix Platform alongside the audit log. The free tools handle one-off redactions and merges well; production-scale work needs the Platform.
