Free PDF tools for legal teams

By Docverix EditorialLast reviewed

Legal teams move PDFs that other teams would call 'risky' — counterparty contracts, signed amendments, exhibits, redacted production sets. Docverix gives you free in-browser tools for the routine jobs (merge, split, rotate, redact, OCR) without anything ever leaving the tab — auditable by anyone with DevTools open. Workflow-heavy work (parallel review, signed audit trails, PKCS#12 sigs) lives on the Platform.

You probably already do this

The jobs the free tools cover

  • Combining an executed master agreement with its signed amendment + side letters into a single executable PDF
  • Redacting client names from a discovery production before producing to opposing counsel
  • Splitting an exhibit pack into one PDF per exhibit for the bundle
  • Rotating a paralegal's sideways scan back upright before filing
  • Running OCR on a scanned deposition transcript so you can word-search the testimony

Scenarios

How each job maps to a tool

Redact client names from a production

Open the PDF in the editor, pick the redaction tool, drag boxes over the names. We strip the underlying text from the content stream (not just paint over it) — copy/paste and PDF-inspector recovery both fail.

Combine MSA + amendment + side letters

Drop the executed master, the signed amendment, and any side letters; reorder so chronology reads correctly; merge into one canonical PDF. Hyperlinks and form fields are preserved across the merge.

Split an exhibit pack into one PDF per exhibit

Range mode (e.g. '1-12, 13-27, 28-end') gives you one file per exhibit; name each before download so they sort right in the bundle folder.

Sideways scan → upright

Rotate 90° clockwise / counter-clockwise / 180°. The rotation persists across viewers and printers — unlike browser-preview rotation, which is view-only.

Scanned transcript → searchable text

OCR the scanned deposition (English, 23 other languages available); now you can search for a specific exchange across hundreds of pages instead of scrolling.

When the Platform fits

Honest take on the paid upgrade

When the document workflow needs an audit trail that survives outside counsel scrutiny. The Docverix Platform tier handles approval routing (paralegal → associate → partner), PKCS#12 cryptographic signatures with certificate-chain validation, and a tamper-proof audit log with actor + timestamp on every state change. Built for in-house counsel teams whose document trails get reviewed.
