How to use PDF Editor
Open a PDF in your browser, annotate or sign it, then download the edited copy — no Acrobat, no signup, no upload. The editor runs entirely client-side on top of pdf-lib and pdfjs, so the file never leaves the tab. Drop in a contract, mark it up, redact a name, and send it back in under a minute.
Good for
- •Adding text boxes, shapes, signatures, or highlights to a finished PDF
- •Filling in flat (non-AcroForm) PDF forms with typed text
- •Reorganising, rotating, or deleting pages before sending the file
- •Redacting a name, account number, or signature with a true black box
- •Inserting a logo or stamped image onto a quote or invoice
Not good for
- •Editing the body text of an existing paragraph (use PDF → Word, then Word → PDF)
- •Password-protected or encrypted PDFs — unlock first or use the Platform tier
- •Long-form OCR — use the dedicated Image to Text tool
- •Pixel-perfect typesetting on top of complex layouts (PDF coordinates can drift)
Walkthrough
Step by step
- 01
Open the editor
Tools menu → PDF Editor, then drop a .pdf onto the canvas (or click to browse). Files up to 25 MB are supported; bigger files prompt to use the Platform tier.
- 02
Pick a tool from the left rail
Text, freehand pen, shapes (rectangle / ellipse / line), highlighter, signature, image, and redaction all live in the vertical rail. The selected tool stays active until you switch — no double-clicking to re-arm.
- 03
Annotate
Click on the page to drop a text box, or drag for shapes. Use the right panel to change color, stroke width, font, and size — properties update live as you select existing objects.
- 04
Reorder, rotate, or delete pages
Open the page thumbnails sidebar (left edge). Drag thumbnails to reorder, click the rotate handle to spin a page 90°, or hit delete to drop one entirely.
- 05
Sign or redact
Signature tool → Type / Draw / Upload, then drop the result anywhere on the page. Redaction tool → drag a box; the underlying text is removed from the PDF stream, not just visually covered.
- 06
Save the result
Click Download. The editor bakes every annotation into the PDF using pdf-lib and emits a fresh file — your original is never modified in place, so re-open and re-edit at will.
Tips
- •Hold Shift while drawing to constrain shapes to perfect squares, circles, or 45° lines.
- •Cmd/Ctrl+Z undoes any annotation; Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. The history is per-session and resets on download.
- •For typed signatures, switch the signature modal to the Type tab — pick a script font, set the color, drop it once and reuse via the right-rail Recents list.
- •Multi-select with Shift-click to move or recolor a batch of annotations at once.
- •Need the same redaction in three places? Place one, copy with Cmd/Ctrl+C, paste with Cmd/Ctrl+V — the text underneath each pasted box is also stripped.
