How to use Rotate PDF

By Docverix EditorialLast reviewed

Rotate one page, a range of pages, or every page in a PDF — 90°, 180°, or 270° increments. The rotation is applied at the document level so it sticks in every viewer (unlike browser preview rotation, which is local-only). Useful for fixing sideways scans, mobile photos saved as PDFs in the wrong orientation, or mixed-orientation batches from a scanner.

Good for

  • Sideways scans that came in portrait but should be landscape
  • Mixed-orientation documents from a flatbed scanner
  • Mobile photos saved as PDFs in the wrong orientation
  • Rotating just a few problem pages in an otherwise correct document
  • Pre-print cleanup so every page faces the right way on paper

Not good for

  • Arbitrary rotation angles — only 90° increments
  • Skew correction (use OCR's deskew pre-pass for that)
  • Rotating content but keeping the page frame fixed (use the PDF Editor)
  • Password-protected files (unlock first)

Walkthrough

Step by step

  1. 01

    Drop the PDF

Tools menu → Rotate PDF. All pages render as thumbnails with the current rotation indicator visible on each.

  2. 02

    Select pages

Click pages individually, drag to multi-select, or use the Select All / Select Landscape / Select Portrait quick buttons.

  3. 03

    Pick an angle

90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise, or 180°. Thumbnails update immediately so you can verify before committing.

  4. 04

    Or run auto-rotate

Click 'Auto-rotate all' and we sample text direction per page to flip sideways pages back upright. Good for messy scan batches; verify the thumbnails after.

  5. 05

    Tweak per-page if needed

Auto isn't always right on graphics-heavy pages. Click any thumb to override with manual rotation; the rest stay as auto-decided.

  6. 06

    Apply & Download

Click Apply & Download. The rotated PDF preserves all annotations, form fields, and bookmarks. Filename keeps the original with a -rotated suffix.

Tips

  • Auto-rotate uses the dominant text direction on each page — great for OCR'd scans, less reliable on heavily decorative pages.
  • Rotation persists across all viewers including print — unlike browser-level rotate which is view-only.
  • Need to rotate just one page in a 100-page PDF? Click only that thumbnail before applying the angle.
  • Hold Shift while clicking thumbnails for range select — faster than ticking 20 pages one at a time.
  • Mixed portrait/landscape document where some pages are already correct? Use Select Landscape, rotate, then verify.
