How to use Split PDF

By Docverix EditorialLast reviewed

Split a PDF into smaller files by page range, every-N-pages, or by extracting individual pages — entirely in your browser. Outputs come back as a ZIP if there's more than one. Useful for pulling a single chapter out of a long PDF, separating a scanned batch into one file per invoice, or carving up a report for distribution.

Good for

  • Pulling a single chapter out of a larger document
  • Splitting a scanned batch into one PDF per invoice or receipt
  • Producing per-section files for distribution across stakeholders
  • Extracting a signature page from a long contract
  • Breaking a 200-page report into 10-page chunks for review

Not good for

  • Splitting on content (e.g., 'every page that says CHAPTER') — page-position only
  • Auto-detecting invoice boundaries inside a mixed scan (Platform feature)
  • Splitting password-protected files (unlock first)
  • Preserving cross-page form-field state across splits

Walkthrough

Step by step

  1. 01

    Drop your PDF

Tools menu → Split PDF, then drop the file. The page count appears immediately so you can plan the split. Files up to 25 MB are supported.

  2. 02

    Pick a split mode

Range (e.g., '1-3, 7, 10-end'), Every N pages (chunk into equal sized files), or Extract single pages (one file per page).

  3. 03

    Enter ranges

For Range mode, type comma-separated values. Use 'end' as a shorthand for the last page (e.g., '50-end'). For Every N, type the chunk size.

  4. 04

    Preview the result

We show each output file with its page count and a thumbnail of the first page before generating. Tweak the ranges if a split doesn't look right.

  5. 05

    Name each output (optional)

Click any filename in the preview list to rename before download — useful when each split is logically distinct (e.g., 'invoice-2024-001.pdf').

  6. 06

    Download

One file → direct download. Multiple files → packaged as a ZIP. The original is never modified.

Tips

  • Use 'end' as a shorthand in ranges — '50-end' splits from page 50 to the last page without needing to know the page count.
  • The original file stays untouched; we never modify the input — re-run with different ranges as needed.
  • Need to extract just one page? Type that page number alone in Range mode (e.g., '7') — single-page output downloads directly without a ZIP.
  • For predictable filenames, use Every N or Extract single pages — they auto-name part-001.pdf, part-002.pdf for sorting.
  • Combine with Merge to reshuffle: split out the wrong-order pages, then merge them in the right order.
